The defendant, Rafael Delgado, was convicted after a jury trial of manslaughter in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-55 (a) (1),1 and risk of injury to a child in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1991) § 53-21.2 The trial court rendered judgment sentencing the defendant to a total effective sentence of thirty years imprisonment, suspended after twenty-two years, and five years probation.3 The defendant appealed to the Appellate Court, and a divided panel of that court reversed the trial court’s judgment on the ground that the trial court improperly…
