Lake Tahoe, a unique high Sierra mountain lake and the dominant natural feature of the Tahoe basin, is losing its most valued quality, its pristine clarity. In recognition of this deterioration, the states of Nevada and California and the United States Congress ratified the Tahoe Regional Planning Compact (hereinafter Compact). The Compact is designed to protect, preserve, and enhance the Lake Tahoe Basin.
