Get only new results, with answers in the format you need

Each monitor tracks what was already delivered and filters out repeats. Whenever a run finds something new, it answers the monitor's question from the new pages it found and summarizes what changed since the last update. Choose a text summary or structured JSON for each delivery, with highlights, full text, or summaries for every new result. Every answer field links to its sources.

Route updates to the right tools and teams

Tag each monitor with metadata, like a CRM account ID or Slack channel. Every delivery carries those tags, so your app knows exactly where each result goes: the right account, channel, or agent.

Discover companies that match your criteria

Monitor an ideal customer profile or investment criteria to find companies beyond your existing account list. Use new findings for lead generation and deal sourcing: a funding announcement or expansion signal can trigger a webhook that your application uses to create a CRM record or start a qualification workflow.

Common questions

Exa's Monitors API is an automated web monitoring API that runs recurring searches, answers questions from what's new, and delivers updates to your webhook. Ask a question or describe what to watch for in plain language, set a schedule, and get a cited answer with each update, along with the new results behind it. There's no need to build your own scheduling, deduplication, summarization, or delivery system.

Use Exa to monitor information published on specific websites or across the public web. Ask questions like "Has American Airlines announced a direct flight between New Orleans and Seattle?" or "Did the FDA approve this drug?" and get an answer with source citations with each update. Or track broader topics like company news, job changes, industry trends, regulatory developments, and research. You can restrict searches to selected domains and send answers and new findings into your downstream systems.

Exa's Monitors API finds new information about a topic or company across the web. A website changes API detects edits to a specific page. Exa's Monitors API uses semantic search to find relevant developments across the web, even when sources use different wording. For example, a monitor for company expansion can find announcements about new offices, overseas hiring, or entry into new markets.

Yes. Create a monitor for each company to track funding, acquisitions, leadership changes, hiring, or expansion. For an account monitoring API integration, attach a CRM account ID as metadata. Each webhook delivery includes that ID so your application can automatically associate findings with the right account in your CRM.

Yes. Use the Monitors API to search for news about companies, industries, or topics on a recurring schedule. Deliver new findings to an AI agent, news dashboard, or alerting workflow, with source citations to review or verify the underlying reporting.

A cron job schedules search calls, but you still need to store previous results, filter duplicates, and deliver updates. Exa's Monitors API handles those steps for you, combining recurring searches, run history, deduplication, and webhook delivery in a single monitor you set up with one API call.

If you need results once, use the Search API. If you need them every time something new appears, create a monitor.

Each monitor tracks the results and findings it has already returned and filters them out of later runs, even when a different source reports the same news. This keeps results you've already seen out of later deliveries.

Monitors can be set to run hourly or at longer intervals, such as every six hours, daily, or weekly. You can also trigger runs on demand, pause scheduled runs, or create a manual-only monitor.

Choose a monitoring cadence based on how quickly information changes and how soon your application or agent needs to act.

  • Hourly: Breaking news, security incidents, travel disruptions, ticket releases, product restocks, and flight deals.
  • Daily: Product launches, funding rounds, leadership changes, regulatory updates, job openings, apartment listings, product discounts, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Weekly: Market reports, industry research, policy proposals, local weekend events, new courses, and vacation ideas.

Daily is a useful starting point for company tracking, account monitoring, and personal AI agents.

Choose hourly for time-sensitive updates and weekly for research or discovery.

Exa's automated web monitoring API lets you set a separate cadence for each monitor.

A completed-run delivery includes the run status, new results, and a text summary or structured JSON output. Citations are returned separately in output.grounding. Deliveries also include your monitor's metadata and an Exa-Signature header for verifying authenticity. See the Monitors docs.

Yes. Provide an outputSchema to define the JSON fields your application needs. Each run returns structured output that follows that schema, ready for your CRM, database, or AI agent. Without a schema, the default output is a text summary.

Yes. Use includeDomains to focus searches on selected websites or excludeDomains to leave sources out. You can also request highlights, full text, or summaries for each result.

No. You can create, edit, and review monitors in the Exa dashboard. To integrate results into your product or another system, configure a webhook endpoint to receive deliveries.

Exa's Monitors API runs scheduled searches across the public web for new RFPs, government solicitations, public tenders, and grant notices that match your criteria. When a new posting appears, it's delivered to your application by webhook, so your team hears about it automatically without checking procurement portals by hand. You can also set up Monitors to track early signals like sources sought notices and RFIs, which show up before the formal request.

Yes. With Exa's Monitors API, you set up a monitor describing the opportunities you want, such as federal contracts in a specific industry or tenders in a particular region, and choose how often it runs. Each new result is sent to your webhook, where your application can route it to a proposal team, log it in a pipeline tracker, or start a review workflow.
