Following a mistrial, a second jury found the defendant, Randall Saunders, guilty of manslaughter in the first degree with a firearm in violation of General Statutes § 53a-55a (a).1 The trial court, Holden, J., rendered judgment in accordance with the jury verdict,2 and the defendant appealed.3 On appeal, the defendant claims that: (1) the state failed to disprove his claim of self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt; (2) the trial court improperly excluded certain expert testimony in violation of his constitutional right to present a defense; and (3) he was retried in…
