Plaintiff, formerly a federal prisoner, sued the United States and two individuals — a prison doctor and the warden — alleging negligence and deliberate indifference to plaintiff’s medical needs. Plaintiff obtained a judgment for compensatory damages from the United States (for negligence) and for punitive damages from the doctor, Paul Pichardo (for deliberate indifference).
