The defendant was convicted after a jury trial of (1) possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, G. L. c. 269, § 11C, (2) unlawful possession of ammunition, G. L. c. 269, § 10(A), (3) unlawful possession of a firearm, G. L. *588c. 269, § 10(a), and (4) possession of a class A substance (heroin) with intent to distribute, G.
