Defendant in error brought an action of ejectment to recover possession of forty acres of land in the township of Ogden, Lenawee county.

To maintain the action in the court below the plaintiff offered in evidence a certified copy, from the register’s office of Monroe county of the record of a deed from Robert Van Rensselaer to Joseph R. Stuyvesant, dated October 4, 1840, and acknowledged November 2d, 1840, at the city of Newark, Essex county, New Jersey, before Joseph C.
