In this divorce action, defendant Sunaina Nanda appeals an order that denied defendant’s motion to dismiss for lack of subject-matter jurisdiction. For the reasons set forth below, we affirm.

I. FACTS AND PROCEEDINGS

Defendant maintains that the circuit court lacks subject-matter jurisdiction because, pursuant to MCL 552.9(1), a court “shall not” grant a judgment of divorce unless the complainant or defendant “has resided in this state for 180 days immediately preceding the filing of the complaint,” and according to defendant, neither party meets this residency requirement.
