Before the Court is the petitioner’s petition for writ of habeas corpus.
I. State Court Proceedings.
A. Trial.
On October 17, 1986, petitioner was charged with rape.' On March 31, 1987, he was tried before a Pulaski County Circuit Court jury. At trial, the forty-seven-year-old victim offered the following testimony on direct examination by the prosecutor: Between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. on August 16, 1986, she heard a knock on her door at her home in Jacksonville, Arkansas, and went to the door and opened it.
