Debbie Stekloff was employed as a psychiatric nurse for St. John’s Mercy Health Systems when she had an argument with her supervisor about making personal calls during work hours. Within minutes after the conclusion of the argument, Ms. Stek-loff told her supervisor that she was too upset to perform her work and that she was leaving. Ms. Stekloff then contacted her physician, who met her at the hospital. The doctor wrote a note recommending that she not return to work for about two weeks, and Ms. Stekloff immediately placed it in her supervisor’s mailbox.…
