On June 15, 1978, after a jury trial in the Superior Court, Jean Marie Gagnon and two codefendants were convicted on indictments charging armed robbery while masked (G. L. c. 265, § 17), armed assault with intent to murder (G. L. c. 265, § 18, as in effect prior to St. 1981, c. 678, § 3), attempted murder (G. L. c. 274, § 6), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (G. L. c. 265, § 15A, as in effect prior to St. 1981, c. 678, § 1), and assault and battery on a police officer (G. L. c. 265, § 13D).
