This litigation began in March, 1976, with the filing by Arlington Ridge Road Associates (Arlington) of a “Petition for Injunction and Monetary Damages” against American Realty Trust (American), Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A. (Chase Bank), and Chase Manhattan Mortgage and Realty Trust (Chase Trust). In the petition, Arlington sought compensatory and punitive damages against the respondents for their alleged mishandling of the funding of The Representative, a condominium project in Arlington County.
