HAWLEY, District Judge.
The libel in this case was filed to recover damages for alleged negligent, illegal, and wrongful treatment upon the part of the schooner Uranus, its owners and master. The court awarded the libelant the sum of $1,000. The schooner, on the morning of April 5, 1899, sailed from the hay of San Francisco on a cod-fishing voyage in Alaskan waters. Nelse Strangland was the master, and the libelant the third mate, of the schooner. All the members of the ship’s crew were on a lay. From the testimony the court found the following facts:
