Plaintiff Dean Kent (“Kent”) brought action against former Colchester Police Officer Jared Katz (“Katz”) for violating Kent’s rights under state law and the United States Constitution during Kent’s arrest on June 20, 1996. On October 23, 2003, a jury in the United States District Court for the District of Vermont concluded that Kent failed to prove his unlawful arrest and battery claims against Katz.
