Thomas Wayne Hightree appeals his convictions for unauthorized possession of two firearms, in violation of title 14, section 2253(a) of the Virgin Islands Code. People v. Hightree, No. ST-09-CR-0000590 (V.I. Super. Ct. July 30, 2010). Hightree argues that the unauthorized possession statute does not apply to him because he was once licensed to carry his firearms, and although he let the licenses expire, there was no statutory authority to charge him with unauthorized possession.
