On August 1, 1974, the Arkansas Senate voted to “expel and/or disqualify” Senator Guy Hamilton Jones, Sr., from that body. Jones brought this suit against Lee Reaves, Secretary of the Senate, and various other state officials, to pro. libit those officials from acting on the assumption that the expulsion was valid. For example, Jones sought to compel the State Auditor to continue paying Jones’ salary, and sought to prohibit the governor from calling a special election to fill a vacancy.
