This order to show cause presents an important question of public policy, of the operation of new article 81 of the Mental Hygiene Law, the adult guardianship statute, and of constitutional necessity. Petitioner seeks the appointment of a guardian and a temporary guardian for an elderly indigent woman who is presently a patient at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City.
