Mary Bearden brought this action against her former employer International Paper Company (International Paper), alleging she was wrongfully discharged because of her sex and age, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq., and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, 29 U.S.C. § 621 et seq. She also alleged violation of the Equal Pay Act (EPA), 29 U.S.C. § 206(d)(1), and defamation under Arkansas law. International Paper moved for summary judgment on all of Bearden’s claims.
