This appeal arises out of contentious commercial litigation between BP Products North America (“BP”) and two owner-operators of BP-franchise gasoline and convenience stores in the greater Chicago area. Begun as two separate actions in Cook County Circuit Court, the cases were consolidated because they alleged identical claims under state franchise law stemming from BP’s transition from company-owned stores to a franchise system.
