On this appeal, the principal issue dividing this court concerns the sufficiency of the evidence of the defendant’s guilt of robbery in the first degree. Viewing the evidence, as we must, in a light most favorable to the prosecution, giving it the benefit of every reasonable inference to be drawn therefrom (see, Jackson v Virginia, 443 US 307, 319; People v Lewis, 64 NY2d 1111, 1112; People v Malizia, 62 NY2d 755, 757, cert denied — US —, 105 S Ct 327; People v Contes, 60 NY2d 620, 621), we conclude that the defendant’s guilt was proven beyond a reasonable…
