Plaintiffs appeal from an order dismissing their complaint for failure to state a cause of action.

On July 13, 1982, plaintiff Gregory Schaffrath, Jr., age 16, and plaintiff’s decedent Patti Wildner, age 15, were passengers in an automobile owned and operated by Paul W. Kaufman, who was 22 years old. At about 12:15 a.m., defendant Officer Steven Haisley, of the Buffalo Grove police department, stopped Kaufman’s vehicle in Buffalo Grove because of a loud muffler.
