A jury found defendant, Timothy Chatmon, guilty of first-degree murder pursuant to section 9 — 1 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 9 — 1). He was sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment.
