OPINION

SHEA, Justice.

The defendants, Alfredo Santos and Manuel Cabral, appeal from a judgment entered against them in the Superior Court. The appeal raises several issues, that will be addressed in the order presented. We affirm the judgment entered below.

The evidence established that the plaintiff, Jesuino Rodriques, was seventy-six at the time of trial. He was born in Brazil and was taken to Portugal when he was very young. By the time he emigrated to the United States in 1920, he had only completed four years of schooling. He never learned to read or write English but could sign his name.…
