In this action, petitioner Dexter Jordan Hughes seeks habeas corpus relief pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254 from his conviction in Iowa state court on a charge of first-degree felony murder in the death of his eight-month-old son, Devriek Jennings, in Waterloo, Iowa, on September 25, 1987. The felony underlying Hughes’s felony murder conviction was felonious child endangerment.
