This appeal, which is ancillary to Gion-friddo v. Avis Rent A Car System, Inc., 192 Conn. 280, 472 A.2d 306 (1984) (Gionfriddo I), concerns the availability of statutory interest when a plaintiffs offer of judgment has been rejected. The plaintiff filed a pretrial offer of judgment in the amount of $750,000 on September 29, 1981. The defendants failed to accept this offer. For reasons spelled out in Gionfriddo I, the plaintiff ultimately recovered damages of $478,239 as a result of a jury verdict, and an additional $706,524 as a result of the treble damages awarded by the trial court.
