SELYA, Circuit Judge.

After selling drugs and a gun to an undercover federal agent, defendant-appellant Joseph Patrick Brewster pled guilty to a two-count indictment charging him with distribution of cocaine, see 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1) (1988), and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, see 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) (1988). Brewster appeals from the imposition of sentence, claiming that the district court impermissibly inflated the offense level applicable to the crimes of conviction, and, further, that the' government violated his rights by manipulating a crucial sentencing factor.…
