ROGERS, Circuit Judge:

Appellant Lionel Ortiz appeals his convictions by a jury of several drug distribution offenses on the grounds that in two instances the district court erred by failing to act sua sponte, and in a third instance, abused its discretion. Specifically, Ortiz contends that the district court erred by failing to conduct a colloquy with him to determine whether he had waived his right to testify and plainly erred by failing to inquire whether a potential defense witness could assert a blanket Fifth Amendment privilege.
