Defendant Angel Perez was indicted for attempt rape (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 8 — 4), deviate sexual assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 11 — 3), two counts of indecent liberties with a child (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, pars. 11 — 4(a)(2), 11 — 4(a)(3)), two counts of unlawful use of weapons (Ill. Rev.
