Plaintiff Katrina Van Valen (“Ms. Van Valen” or “Plaintiff’) seeks to recover long term disability benefits allegedly due under a benefit plan insured through a policy issued by Unum Life Insurance Company of America (“Unum”). Unum is the agent and third-party administrator for defendant Employee Welfare Benefits Committee Northrop Grumman Corporation (“Defendant”). 1 The parties have filed cross motions for summary judgment (docket nos. 18 and 20) and supporting materials (docket nos. 21, 23-26).
