This was an action against a number of defendants to recover damages for the alleged slander of the plaintiff. The slander was alleged to have been effectuated pursuant to a common intent, purpose and design of the defendants. The substance of the slander was that plaintiff and one Fordyce had set fire to a building, in which they owned the contents, with the intent and purpose of defrauding the defendant insurance companies.
