delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial, the defendant, Johnnie L. Sims, was convicted of theft of property from the person (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 38, pars. 16 — 1(a)(1), (b)(4)). The defendant was sentenced to a term of five years in the Department of Corrections.

The defendant raises two issues on appeal: (1) whether he was proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of theft of property from the person; and (2) whether he was denied his right to a fair trial because the prosecutor failed to inform him that a State witness had prior criminal…
