Thomas Lewis brought an action in the circuit court of St. Clair County based on the Federal Employers’ Liability Act (45 U.S.C.A. §51 et seq. (West 1986)) and common law premises liability to recover damages for personal injuries he sustained while working for the Illinois Central Railroad (the Railroad). The Railroad, in turn, filed third-party actions for contribution against Matsushita Electric Corporation, d/b/a Panasonic (Panasonic), and TLI, Inc.
