The defendant, Earnest “Snooks” Johnson, a negro, was charged, tried, convicted, and sentenced to 35 years in the penitentiary for the crime of rape upon the person of Emma Helsey, a white girl, in Fort Gibson,, Muskogee county, Oklahoma, on January 20, 1945.
The defendant is a negro, 23 years of age, who was: charged in the Federal court in Muskogee in 1940 with the crime of burglary of the Fort Gibson Post Office, and to which charge he pleaded guilty and for which he was sent to the United States Reformatory at El Reno, Oklahoma.
