In 2009, while in the United States illegally, Defendant Santos Gomez was convicted in Lake City, Michigan of sexual penetration of a fourteen-year-old girl. At the time of the crime, Gomez was eighteen years of age, but was slightly less than four years older than the victim. Following service of his sentence for this offense, Gomez was removed from this country and returned to his native Guatemala. However, Gomez returned to the United States without authority and was subsequently arrested in Michigan on May 23, 2014, after being involved in an auto accident.…
