On March. 28, 1942, a local option election was held in Harlan county and, after certain procedure had been taken in the courts relative to the counting and certification of the votes, the election commissioners certified that 8,888 votes were cast against the- adoption of local option and 8,244 votes were cast in favor of local option, or a majority of 644 votes against the proposal.
