Neivus Renord Poag (defendant) was indicted on one count each of murder, attempted murder, and robbery with a dangerous weapon on 8 January 2001. The State’s evidence at trial tended to show the following. Kunjbala Patel (Mrs. Patel) testified at trial that she and her husband, Pralhad Patel (Mr. Patel), operated the A OK Mart (the store) in Salisbury, North Carolina.
