¶1 In April 2007, a hearing officer recommended Fredric Sanai be disbarred from the practice of law *744in Washington. The disbarment recommendation came after the hearing officer denied Fredric’s request for a stay of the proceedings and instead conducted the three-day hearing without Fredric’s participation or presence.1 Fredric claims the hearing officer abused his discretion by denying his request for a continuance and further, that the denial violated his rights to due process.
