WERNICK, Justice.

On February 1,1980, pursuant to 35 M.R. S.A. § 64, Central Maine Power Company (the Company) filed with the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) a revised schedule of rates designed to increase the Company’s revenues by $35,000,000.

By order dated February 27, 1980, the PUC suspended the operation of the revised rates for three months. A second order, extending this suspension period for an additional five months, was entered on May 29, 1980. See 35 M.R.S.A. § 69.
