The defendant was arrested on the evening of April 25th and taken to the police station on suspicion of having set fire to the dwelling house of Robert Holden early in the morning of that day. On April 26th, after questioning by police officers he wrote out three separate statements in his own handwriting, which are exhibits in the record. In Exhibit A he stated his doings on the night of April 24th-25th.
