NOVAK, Judge:

A military judge sitting as a special court-martial convicted the appellant, contrary to his pleas, of attempted distribution of 3,4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine (commonly known as “ecstasy”)1 and wrongful use of marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy, in violation of Articles 80 and 112a, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. §§ 880 and 912a [hereinafter UCMJ].
