Appellant was tried and convicted, pursuant to pleas of guilty, by military judge, sitting as a special court-martial, of the following periods of unauthorized absence, in violation of Article 86, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), 10 U.S.C. § 886: the specification under the Charge alleged an absence from 22 August through 21 December 1981; the specification under the Additional Charge alleged an absence extending from 21 December 1981 to 20 December 1983.1 The sworn Charge was received by the officer exercising summary court-martial jurisdiction on 17 March 1982.
