OPINION

GONZALEZ, Justice.

The issue in this case is whether article III, section 18 of the Texas Constitution disqualifies a mid-term legislator from running for the office of Attorney General because of legislation which has the effect of increasing retirement benefits for certain elected state employees. The trial court rendered judgment declaring that Senator J. E. “Buster” Brown is eligible to be a candidate for Attorney General in the Republican primary.
