Defendant Stefen Hart (Hart) was charged with criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, pars. 12—13, 12—14, 12—15) in connection with an incident that occurred on November 18, 1987, involving M.T., a four-year-old girl. After a bench trial Hart was found guilty on the one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and was sentenced to a term of seven years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
