Defendant, Tommy Nevitt, was convicted in the circuit court of Cook County for the aggravated criminal sexual assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 12— 14(b)(1)) of three-year-old J.B. and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment. On appeal, the appellate court reversed defendant’s conviction and remanded the cause for a new trial.
