GEER, Judge.

Plaintiffs Dennis E. Bullard, M.D. and Wendy W. Bullard (“the Bullards”) appeal from the trial court’s grant of summary judgment in favor of defendants Wake County, Troy Howard Parrott, John Dipetrio, Steven Aden Branch, and Edward Langston Savage (“the County”)1 on the grounds of sovereign immunity and the statute of limitations. We hold that because the County did not, during the pertinent time frame, have insurance that would cover the claims in this case, there was no waiver of sovereign immunity under N.C. Gen.
