TJOFLAT, Circuit Judge:
Nelson Fernando Alvarez Acosta (“Alvarez”), a Colombian native and citizen, petitions this court to review the decision of the Board of Immigration Appeals (“BIA”) affirming the decision of an Immigration Judge (“IJ”) denying his motion for a continuance of his removal proceedings. The IJ denied Alavarez’s motion on numerous grounds, among them that Alvarez had been removed from the United States in 1997 following his 1993 conviction for possessing drug paraphernalia.
