BORDEN, J.
The sole issue in this certified appeal is whether, under the facts of this case, the plaintiff, *171Annette Barretta, was entitled to a jury instruction on the doctrine of res ipsa loquitur in her negligence action against the named defendant, Otis Elevator Company.1 The trial court declined the plaintiffs request to charge on that doctrine, and the Appellate Court reversed, holding that the plaintiff was entitled to such a charge.
