On September 18,1978, the United States of America filed a complaint in condemnation and notice of condemnation for the taking in seven tracts of 243.538 acres of land, more or less, in the County of Maui, Hawaii. The land was to be taken “for the proper administration, preservation, and development of Haleakala National Park for the use, benefit and enjoyment of the public.” The Nature Conservancy and several other defendants were named in the complaint as purported owners or as other parties who…
