The petitioner was convicted, after a jury trial, of the crime of manslaughter in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-55 (a) (1).1 The conviction was upheld by this court. State v. Summerville, 13 Conn. App. 175, 535 A.2d 818 (1988). The petitioner subsequently filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus alleging (1) that his trial counsel rendered ineffective assistance and (2) that his conviction was based on unreliable medical evidence.
