The defendant, Jamel Beall, appeals from the judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-59 (a) (l)1 and carrying a pistol without a permit in violation of General Statutes § 29-35,2 and *433from the sentence imposed by the court in a separately charged part B information for the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in violation of General Statutes § 53-202k.3 The court sentenced the defendant to a term of eighteen years, suspended after eight years, with three years of probation on the assault…
